New Hampshire based figurative oil painter Gretchen Thompson creates large and small scale paintings that are at once nuanced and vibrant. She works in fluid, expressive brush strokes and layers of paint to create an atmosphere in which figures are enlivened and enveloped by their environment. Her paintings explore the theme of connection and disconnection between human beings as they are held in common by the invisible energies of their shared world. Gretchen holds a BA in fine art and attended Oberlin College, Chelsea School of Art and Design, Delaware University, and Tobias School of Art and Therapy. She has painted and drawn with passion for her entire life but decided to make time to paint seriously several years ago. Since then, she set up a studio in Harrisville, NH where she is inspired by the beauty of the local area and the creativity of the community.
